Qatar Duty Free, a Qatar Airways subsidiary, is celebrating Chinese New Year with an exclusive Chinese-themed promotion until February end at the Doha International Airport (DIA). To mark the festive period, Qatar Duty Free has turned a section of its first floor promotional area of the Departures Terminal into a sea of red and gold with decorations and oriental designs to promote the annual festive period.
Passengers from around the world can join in the Chinese New Year celebrations with an 8% discount voucher for spend on a range of popular products in the promotional area. These include tobacco, fragrances, cosmetics, skincare, luxury watches, gifts and souvenirs – all of which are popular among Chinese consumers. According to the Chinese calendar, the Chinese New Year – Year of the Snake – officially begins on February 10 across the Asia Pacific region and among the Chinese expatriate communities around the world, but with celebrations beginning well before then.
As part of the promotion, passengers travelling from mainland China and Hong Kong will be handed an 8% discount coupon, along with their boarding pass upon check-in, which can be used on purchases made within the Qatar Duty Free Chinese New Year promotional area of the main departures terminal at Doha International Airport, as well as Qatar Duty Free at the Premium Terminal dedicated for first and business class passengers. In addition, all passengers travelling out of Doha or transiting will also get the same 8% discount coupon that can be used at both locations.
As a further token of appreciation, when passengers make purchases at these two locations, they will receive an additional auspicious discount voucher of 15% to be used for their next duty free purchases across the airport. This is also the first year that Qatar Duty Free has introduced CUP (China Union Pay) as a payment option for customers.
Akbar al-Baker, Chief Executive Officer, Qatar Airways, commended Qatar Duty Free for keeping the tradition alive and well for their Chinese customers by providing them with a great shopping experience in celebration of the most auspicious period on the Chinese calendar. “Qatar Airways has a large number of passengers from China who are very loyal to our airline,” he said. “We want to recognise them and thank them for their continued support, and may I take this opportunity to wish our Chinese customers and Chinese partners a very happy and prosperous New Year.”
Keith Hunter, Senior Vice-President, Qatar Airways Duty Free, added: “In honour of Chinese New Year, we are extending the offer to passengers from around the world to sample our generosity in the promotional area of Qatar Duty Free decked in a sea of red and gold, as well as within the Premium Terminal at Doha International Airport.”
