Group chief executive officer of Doha Bank Group, R Seetharaman, has been awarded the prestigious ‘CA Global Achiever Award,’ at the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAI) Awards 2012 ceremony held in Mumbai, India.
Established in 1949, the ICAI is the second largest professional accounting body in terms of membership. Currently it has more than 200,000 members and more than 1mn students.
Apart from its primary role, ICAI has helped various government agencies like the Reserve Bank of India, the Securities and Exchange Board of India, and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority in policy formulation.
“Today chartered accountants play a vital role in assisting business and industry to optimise the use of resources, improve their efficiency as well as facilitate in enabling them to achieve their objectives,” an ICAI official said.
Chartered accountants also have widened their areas of horizon and thereby developed capabilities to see the bigger picture. In a dynamic and challenging business environment, chartered accountants should act as consultants and provide complete business solutions.
On receiving the award Seetharaman thanked the awards jury and his colleagues in the profession for conferring the honour on him.
Seetharaman also holds a certificate in IT systems and corporate management. He was awarded the ‘Doctor of Civil Laws of Honoris Causa 2012 by European University,’ Geneva, Switzerland for his contribution to global governance and social responsibility.
Seetharaman was honoured with an ‘Honorary, Doctor of Laws 2012’ by Washington College for his contribution to the society in the field of banking, knowledge management, corporate social responsibility and governance.
He is also a columnist, prolific speaker and also one of the most sought after economists in the GCC countries. On a regular basis, he is being invited by a host of international and regional media channels such as BBC, CNN, FOX, CNBC and Bloomberg seeking his comments on recent developments and issues in economics, banking, and
environment.
