The Sri Lankan community in Qatar will celebrate their country’s 65th Independence Day, which falls today, with a cultural programme at Radisson Blu Hotel Doha on February 15.
The programme is being organised by the Sri Lankan embassy in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Co-ordinating Committee (SLCC) Qatar. Sri Lankan Ambassador Jayantha Palipane will be the chief guest at the event.
A 15-member cultural troupe from Rivega Dance Studio with choreographer Rangika Jeewantha will perform in Doha for the first time. The troupe has performed in several countries across the globe and is famous for recreating and renewing the traditional dance forms of Sri Lanka.
Popular artistes Rodney Warnakula, Giriraj Kaushalya and Priyantha Seneviratne will also perform at the event, said SLCC Qatar president Lenny Cramer. The programme will be compered by Hema Nalin Karunaratne.
Doha-based Sri Lankan band Black Cats will provide the music. Children from the dance academies of Senuranga Dance Troupe with choreographer Asanka Salwathura and Dinu Rangayathanaya with choreographer Dinuk Lawrance will also showcase their talents.
While the programme will start at 5pm, the doors will open at 4pm.
