Pupil and General Luna bands, two of the most popular bands in the Philippines, will perform on February 8 at the Al Ahli Stadium in Doha.
The concert for a cause dubbed as ‘Valentine’s Sweet Rock 2013’ is expected to draw thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
Jen Pacleb of the Doha Eventology said that many Filipino bands had already performed in Doha but this year’s concert would be a special event. She stressed that part of the proceeds would go to charity institutions like ABS-CBN Bantay Bata 163 and to distressed OFWs at the Philippine Overseas Labour Office.
“We think that this combination: Pupil as a talented rock band in the Philippines fronted by legendary Ely Buendia and General Luna as an upcoming band composed of equally talented ladies, is a hit among the local expat community,” Pacleb said.
Many OFWs want to see Ely Buendia of Pupil, a known singer and lead vocalist of Eraserheads band in the Philippines.
In a message, Buendia said: “It’s always a treat performing for overseas Filipino workers!”
Sergio of Pupil admits that many Filipinos are not yet familiar with their songs especially those who are working outside the country.
“You could expect, though, to hear original Pupil songs. It would be more fun for us and (you) our audience if they know our songs. Most of them can be seen in YouTube,” he said.
Pupil had already performed in Doha and sang Teeth and Eraserheads songs. “We might do that again, if you say please,” Sergio quipped.
“Honestly I do not know what our performance will be like as our band usually is very dynamic and spontaneous. But for sure our set will not be the same as our previous.”
Most band members have assured their fans that everyone will enjoy the concert.
“We are really excited and we are looking forward to sharing our music to everyone there at Doha,” said lead guitarist Caren Tevanny Mangaran of General Luna.
Asiano, the winner of the battle of the bands for a cause held last month at the Philippine International School, will join the two bands during the concert.
The band’s lead singer JP De Leon earlier said that they are happy to be part of the concert. They are also excited to jam with Buendia.
Some of Asiano’s members include JP De Leon, Jonathan Keith Gutierrez, Robinson Curan, Jason Gatpandan, Jasper Radin and Jhomark Enriquez who are all Filipino expatriate workers in Qatar.
Tickets cost QR80 (regular) and QR110 (VIPs).
