Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has appointed women’s health expert, Dr Thomas Bossmar, as head of gynaecology at the Women’s Hospital.
Dr Bossmar is an expert in obstetrics and gynaecology and has been a pioneer of the use of robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
His appointment further strengthens HMC’s commitment to expanding and improving its women’s health services.
He joins a team that includes Professor David Barlow, who was appointed as director of women’s services for HMC and Chair of obstetrics and gynaecology services at the Women’s Hospital in late 2012.
“Dr Bossmar’s appointment to our clinical leadership team is part of HMC’s commitment to improving women’s health in Qatar. We aspire to build a strong gynaecology practice, encompassing state-of-the-art minimally invasive technologies,” said Hanan al-Kuwari, managing director of HMC.
“As we move towards the opening of the new Women’s Hospital, we need to ensure that our technology, people and processes are fit for the world-class facilities we are building. HMC is creating a wealth of healthcare expertise in Qatar by continually developing its individual hospitals’ strengths, nurturing and promoting local expertise and augmenting this with the international best practice experience, like the kind Dr Bossmar will bring to our organisation.”
Dr Bossmar has held senior clinical posts in Sweden and elsewhere, including senior consultant and assistant professor at the University Hospital in Lund. Since 2006, robotic surgery has been his main focus and he has performed more than 250 gynaecological robotic procedures.
Dr Bossmar also brings extensive research expertise in the fields of robotic surgery and gynaecological oncology.
“I look forward to working with the committed team at HMC and the Women’s Hospital,” he said.
