RasGas’ delegation led by managing director Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Ulsan, South Korea
A high-level RasGas delegation recently met top executives of Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in Ulsan, South Korea and “jointly celebrated” significant progress on the offshore construction phase of the Barzan Gas Project.
HHI was awarded the main EPC contract in January 2011 and commenced the engineering phase in Malaysia and Singapore.  During the first quarter of this year, the project progressed to the construction phase with fabrication in Ulsan, South Korea and installation in Qatar.
RasGas’ delegation was led by managing director, Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi and included Venture Group manager, Nafez Bseiso, and marketing and shipping executive, Khalid Sultan al-Kuwari. HHI’s representatives included chief executive officer, J S Lee, and Chief Operating Officer, C J Kang.
Al-Mohannadi said: “Being one of the leaders in the energy industry, RasGas has been entrusted with the development of the Barzan Gas Project, one of the largest gas infrastructure projects in the region, which is expected to process approximately 2bn standard cubic feet of gas per day by the year 2015. The RasGas and HHI project teams will continue to work closely together to progress the Offshore Project to its conclusion.”
The delegation also met with eight Qataris who are attached to the project teams in Ulsan.
 “Barzan is making great strides towards the development of Qataris. Their development and enhancing their skills and capabilities is fully in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and under the wise direction of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and through the support of HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada.”
Bseiso underlined the significance of their involvement in the project, saying: “Giving Qataris the opportunity to be part of this development programme and encouraging them to take an active role in the execution of the strategic Barzan Project is yet a further step forward to demonstrate the company’s firm commitment to the development of our national employees, enabling them to enhance their skills and experience on all fronts. They are all making a significant contribution and adding value to this strategic project. The overall development programme for all nationals, men and women, is considered an historical initiative on its own and it has been a great success.”
The Barzan Offshore Project comprises wellhead platforms and pipelines required to deliver gas to the onshore plant located in Ras Laffan Industrial City. The wells and offshore facilities are considered one of the largest in the North Field.
