Dr K T Mohamed Rabeeh Rabeeullah, a prominent Indian businessman in the Gulf and Chairman of Nassem Al Rabeeh — Qatar, has received a prestigious award from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee for his outstanding contributions to the community and humanitarian services.
The award known as Pravasi Bharathiya Samman was given during the concluding ceremony of a conference of Indian expatriates in Kochi, Kerala. Fourteen other prominent Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) also received the award.
Dr Rabeeullah, who is Chairman of Shifa Al Jazeera Medical Group, runs a number of Medical Centres in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and other Gulf countries. The group employs more than 4,000 people from different countries, including 700 Doctors. More than 35,000 people receive the services of Shifa Polyclinics every day.
“The contributions made by Rabeeullah in popularising and making the healthcare system affordable and available for the ordinary people have been immense,” said one of his friends. “It was he who literally opened the doors of super-specialty healthcare treatment for ordinary people working in the Gulf,” he added.
Started off 30 years ago with a tiny clinic, the group today offers its services through 25 healthcare centres and hospitals and as many pharmacies in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. It has set up a company in Dubai producing medical equipment and medical disposable items.
Incas district chapter
gets new officials
The Ernakulam District chapter of the Indian Cultural and Arts Society (Incas Qatar) has been reconstituted.
K J John Gilbert is the new president and K V Boban is the general secretary.
The forum also announced the list of other office–bearers after elections were held to name the new team for the next two years.
Office-bearers are K J John Gilbert (President), K V Boban (General Secretary), K A Illyas, V Ali, Navas and T P Rasheed (secretaries), Jeevaraj Mundadan, M S Raju, K V Radhakrishnan, and Jutus Paul (all vice presidents), and Paul Sebastian (Treasurer).
P R Ramachandran, Davis Edassery, Naseer Ali and Anto Thomas are the new members to the central committee.
The district chapter’s chief patron is K R Girish Kumar.
On assuming charge, the new team vowed to take up issues concerning needy and deserving members of the expatriate community in general and those from Ernakulam district in particular.
Incas vice-president Aboo Kaattil supervised the elections and Incas Qatar president Joppachan Thekkekkuttu and general secretary Mohamed Ali Ponnani felicitated the team members.
John Gilbert proposed a vote of thanks.

Incas Malappuram District Chapter is conducting a cultural show in connection with the forthcoming Indian Republic Day celebrations at Ashoka Hall of Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) tomorrow at 7pm. Youth Forum
to host sports
meet for Keralite community
As part of National Sports Day, Youth Forum is organising sports and games competitions for Keralite community organisations and groups in Qatar.
The Sports Meet named as ‘Pravasi Kayikamela’ will be held on February 8 and 12 and competitions will be both in individual and group events among members and teams of various organisations. Registration is open until January 27.
Individual items include running (100,200 & 1,500m ), Long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw, arm wrestling and so on.
The group events being planned are 4 x 100m Relay, volleyball, shuttle badminton and tug-o-war.
Each participating organisation can register two contestants for each individual items and one team for each group items. Only the first registering 16 teams will be admitted to group events.
The meet is aimed at creating awareness on the importance of sports and physical activities, as well as fostering healthy relationship among members of various community organisations.
