A group of volunteers prepare conference bags
Hundreds of participants have pre-registered online for Qatar Tesol’s 8th International Conference 2012, being held tomorrow and Saturday at the College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q).
Qatar Tesol is a professional, voluntary, non-profit organisation which focuses on teachers who teach non-native speakers of English through the English language.
The forum serves English language teachers (from all levels), math teachers and science teachers.
The conference will begin tomorrow at 1:30pm and will run until late on Saturday afternoon. Online pre-registration is now closed, but attendees still have the option to register onsite on both days.
The theme is ‘Learner Motivation, Involvement and Autonomy.’ There are two plenary speakers.
On Friday afternoon, Dr Neil Anderson, a professor of Linguistics and English Language at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, will give ideas on how to integrate ‘motivational moments’ into the classroom with a plenary entitled The Teacher’s Role in Learner Motivation.
On Saturday morning, Dr Hayo Reinders, the head of Learner Development at Middlesex University in London and the editor of Innovation in Language Learning and Teaching, will demonstrate how mobile phones can become learning tools in the classroom with a plenary entitled ILUVLRNG! The Role of Mobile Phones in Language Learning and Teaching.
There will also be a special demonstration; following Dr Anderson’s plenary, from the QatarDebate Centre, on ideas and practical tips for incorporating debate in the classroom.
A 40-strong team of volunteers – comprising teachers, students and university professors - has been working for the past several weeks to make the event a success.
The schedule for the conference is now available on
www.qatartesol.org. The QR100 conference fee is paid at the door. This includes entry to all lectures and workshops and food over the two days of the conference.
There are also door prizes including a return ticket to Istanbul – sponsored by Turkish Airlines - dinner for two at the Doha Marriott Hotel, vouchers for the Al Dana Club and THE One, as well as Marks & Spencer coupons.
