Qatar-based expatriates from Mattul in Kerala’s Kannur district forming a “human chain” at their gathering , “Rihala 2012” at Ideal Indian School grounds recently
Qatar-based residents from Mattul in Kerala’s Kannur district formed a unique “human chain” at Doha’s Ideal Indian School recently as part of a gathering, Rihala 2012, that they organised.
More than 350 people, including families, attended the meeting.  The “human chain”, according to the organisers, was formed to proclaim the love and unity among the human beings irrespective of their differences in religion, politics and other issues.
The participants were divided into different groups to symbolise the wards where they resided back home. The groups had discussions based on issues focusing on development and how expatriates could support such initiatives.
The Qatar residents prepared a memorandum based on useful and creative suggestions for the improvement in healthcare, education, career guidance and waste management in their native places. This, they said, will be submitted to the officials of the local civic body in Mattul at a function to be held in their native villages.
At the meeting, a long-time resident of the UK from Mattul, Dr Zainul Abideen, presented a project to develop Mattul into a “model village” in primary healthcare by adopting world-class practices.
Various arts and sports competitions were held for elders and children as part of the gathering and prizes were given to participants.
Muneer Ahmed, Mahruf, Najmuddhin, Fawas, Fayis Shahin and Ataulla were among the organisers. A P Ibrahim, Mohamed Shafi, Abdulla and Mehboob Ibrahim delivered felicitations.
Programme committee chairman P P Kunahmed welcomed the gathering and T A Mohamed Kunhi proposed a vote of thanks.
