Student activists scuffle with police during a protest in front of the US embassy in Manila yesterday, condemning a US Navy ship that ran aground on a coral reef in a protected Philippine marine reserve. The USS Guardian remained trapped on the Tubbataha Reef, about 130 kilometres southeast of the western island of Palawan, even after most of its crew members were removed in a bid to get it refloated.
