The Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the report of the survey of country’s building and construction industry for 2011.
As per the QSA report, it surveyed 2,234 establishments, of which 812 (36%) were identified as large establishments, employing 50 or more employees.
The report said more than 393,455 persons are employed in the construction industry, of which 93.5% are working in large establishments. In short, the 812 large establishments together employed 368,081 workers and remaining 25,374 are from 1,422 companies employing less than 50 people.
The annual salaries of the workers from major establishments amounted to QR12bn and the remaining 6.5%, coming from companies having less than 50 employees have combined salaries of QR746mn. An overwhelming majority (99.8%) of the workers are non-Qataris.
The total production reached about QR60bn, generating a gross value addition of QR28bn, which is nearly 4.5% of the country’s GDP for 2012.
The gross output per employee is QR152,037 and gross value addition per employee is QR71,543. The net value addition amounted to QR26 bn.
The percentage of the intermediate goods to gross output was 43% while the percentage of intermediate services to gross output was 10%. The surveys, the report said, were prepared following international recommendations, concepts and definitions.
The surveys provided basic data for the preparation of the gross domestic product (GDP) and the national income as well as other economic indicators.
