HE al-Sada with senior QP and RasGas executives at the Barzan Gas Project construction site at Ras Laffan.
HE the Minister of Energy and Industry, Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada has expressed satisfaction at the progress made in the implementation of the Barzan Gas Project, whose first train is expected to start up in 2014.
During a recent visit to the Barzan construction site at Ras Laffan, al-Sada lauded RasGas for its outstanding achievement in managing such a huge construction project and the unprecedented opportunities provided to Qataris.
RasGas managing director Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi, members of the RasGas Executive Leadership Team and senior managers, a delegation of QP officials and representatives of the contracting companies involved in the project, also accompanied the minister during his visit.
The Barzan Gas Project has the highest number of Qataris working in almost every key discipline compared to previous RasGas mega projects. Also notable is the broad range of Qatari contracting companies involved in providing essential support in terms of manpower, materials, equipment and services.
The onshore and offshore gas processing facilities for the Barzan Gas Project are under construction both in Qatar and in Ulsan, South Korea, respectively and are currently on plan both in terms of cost and schedule to achieve start-up of the first gas processing train in 2014. When the two trains are in operation in 2014 and 2015 respectively, they will combine with other RasGas facilities (LNG and pipeline sales gas) to have a total production capacity of around 11bn standard cubic feet of gas a day.
A project construction workforce of more than 20,000 people comprising of more than 50 nationalities are currently engaged in building facilities at this extensive construction site, occupying an area of over 3sq km.
The project has been maintaining world-class safety performance and industry leading results have been achieved including a total recordable incident rate of 0.08 and a lost time incident rate of 0.01.
Al-Sada lauded the outstanding achievements made to-date on this project and expressed his appreciation for RasGas’ commitment in project development and implementation.
RasGas has been appointed by shareholders, Qatar Petroleum and ExxonMobil, to design, construct and operate the Barzan Gas Project, one of the largest and technologically advanced gas projects in the region.
