Doha: Qatar will be hosting the 10th edition of Qatar International Fencing Championship – Grand Prix 2013 for Men and World Cup for Women in Epee - from January 18 to 21. The preliminary rounds will be held at the Indoor Hall of Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence, while the semi-finals and the finals will be held at the Gate Hall near Salam Stores.

Hosts Qatar Fencing Federation (QFF) has been organising the Grand Prix since 2005 in accordance with Federation Internationale D’Escrime (FIE).

Around 240 fencers from 45 countries are expected to take part in the event, including eight Arab nations.

The individual events will take place on January 20 while fencers will compete in the team’s events the next day. In the individual events 64 fencers will be pitted against each other, in both the men’s and women’s section.

The total prize money in the men’s and women’s section in the individual event is $10,000 and $6,000 respectively. The winner of the women’s team event will be richer by $6,000, runner-up $4,000 and 2nd runner-up $3,000. 

Qatar would be fielding 12 fencers in the men’s section and 10 in the women’s category.
