The forum was held by the Centre for GIS, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning on April 3 and 4 under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Khalifa al-Thani, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Urban Planning.
The prize was awarded at the closing ceremony of the Forum that saw participation by ministries, authorities, international companies and major local companies in the field of communication and information technology.
‘Najm’ is an integrated system that combines together various technological applications and data bases from different sources comprehensively in one place, and will provide situational awareness of ongoing events as well as a common operational picture displayed over dynamic maps.

The NCC and the Information Systems Department of the Ministry of Interior had taken part in the forum and exhibition with a pavilion that displayed many advanced systems of the ministry including the ‘Najm’ security system, geographical directory system, the Ministry’s geographical network system and traffic violations geographical reporting system.
Major Ali al-Muhannadi expressed his happiness on winning the award and said that it will boost development and innovation to utilise the possibilities and potentialities of this system, thus migrating from traditional methods to fully digitalised ways in the security field.
He added that the ‘Najm’ system will accelerate the delivery of information from the Central Operations Department to the various patrols, allowing them to select the closest patrol to the incident site.
