A two-member team from India headed by historian and former vice-chancellor of Calicut University Dr K K N Kurup recently presented a commentary on the Holy Qur’an (“Al Hamashi Thafseer”), prepared in the south Asian country to the authorities at Qatar Centre for Culture and Islamic Studies (Fanar).
Besides Dr Kurup, the team also consisted of the chairman of Al Zahra College and Islamic Research Centre in North Kerala Sayed Mohamed Makhdoom Thangal of Panoor.
Dr Kurup is currently the research director at Zahra Centre for Indo-Arab Research and Heritage Studies in north Kerala.
The team also held a weeklong exhibition on Arabic, Persian and Urdu manuscripts and calligraphy and their similarities with one another at the Fanar.
The manuscripts were prepared by the research centre in collaboration with National Mission for Manuscripts of the Government of India. Dr Kurup is working as the mission’s co-ordinator in Kerala these days.
The delegation had meetings with the Fanar’s Head of Foreign Relations Dr Hizam Eldeen and head of the Heritage Department Dr Abdul Salam Basueni.
