Bangladesh is shivering under the first cold wave this winter.
The meteorological department said yesterday that a mild cold wave was prevailing over Ishwardi, Jessore and Chuadanga districts. Temperature over a large area of the Rajshahi division has dropped sharply, a Met department official said.
The official said this cold wave might extend to Faridpur and Barisal. “Such weather may continue for couple of more days,” he added.
The lowest temperature recorded in Ishwardi yesterday was 9.2 degrees celsius.
The Met office forecast dry weather with moderate to heavy fog throughout large parts of the country from night to noon. Heavy fog will descend over the river basins, the forecast indicated.
The official said the temperature will further drop at night and the lowest temperature could go down to 8 degrees Celsius.
The weather forecast for this month said one or two mild (ranging from 8 to 10 degrees Celsius) or moderate (6 to 8 degrees Celsius) cold waves might hit the country’s north, north-eastern and middle regions by the end of December.
The forecast also said a low-pressure might develop over the Bay of Bengal during this month.
