Former Kerala chief minister and CPI-M leader V S Achuthanandan yesterday said jailed People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Abdul Nazir Madani should get justice from the court and that the ruling coalition did not have a say in the matter.

The official faction of the CPI-M led by party secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has come forward stating that Maudany should be given justice.

However, leader of opposition Achuthanandan said that this was not an issue for either the Left Democratic Front (LDF) or the United Democratic Front (UDF), the present ruling coalition in Kerala, to decide and said that it was the responsibility of the court.

“This is an issue for the court and they have to look into the issue. You (the media) should not see this an issue of either the LDF or the UDF,” said Achuthanandan.

Achuthanandan said ysterday: “When we were in office we wrote twice to the Karnataka government with regard to Madani”

Meanwhile, state Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said  the Kerala government has limitations because the case has been registered in Karnataka. “There are limits but we will look into what can be done,” said Radhakrishnan.

Madani was arrested Aug 17, 2010, in connection with the conspiracy for the 2008 Bangalore bomb blast. He has been lodged in a Bangalore jail for the past 28 months. CPI-M politburo member and former home minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said earlier yesterday that the state government should intervene in getting justice for Madani.

“When Madani was in Coimbatore jail, Achuthanandan, the then education minister went to prevail upon then Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi for justice. Likewise, the present Kerala government should intervene,” said Balakrishnan.
