A delegation from the German Embassy led by the former German ambassador to Qatar, Anne Ruth Herkes, currently State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, visited the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee where they met with the Secretary General, Hassan al-Thawadi.

HE Anne Ruth Herkes, who was in Doha on an official visit, was keen to hear more on progress for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar and the potential joint venture opportunities between Qatar and Germany.

HE Anne Ruth Herkes was joined by Michael Gackenheimer, Founder of Electrical Energy and Solartechnic Industries, and Bjoern Jaekel, VP of Sales, Sport Five Germany. The delegation was updated on the recent signing of the stakeholder agreements between Q22 and those entities in Qatar that are to play a key role in delivering the infrastructure required for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar, namely: Qatar Rail; Ashghal; Kahramaa; Aspire Zone Foundation and Qatari Diar.

Al-Thawadi explained that the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee was always interested in hearing from innovative companies that shared the Committee’s vision for exciting design and cutting edge concepts with a focus on sustainability.

HE Anne Ruth Herkes agreed to organise a series of meetings with German companies on al-Thawadi’s next visit to Germany so they could each present their own visions and pitch ideas. Q22 was also extended an invitation to attend the 7th Annual Investment & Finance, Qatar in Berlin conference in April 2013.

During the discussions, Q22 heard from Michael Gackenheimer, whose company develops a state-of-the-art acclimatisation process whereby turbines utilize excess heat and channel this to make electrical energy. His company has already exchanged ideas with the Ministry of Energy in Qatar with a view to signing an MoU in the future.
