Barwa Bank won the Islamic Business and Finance Awards for “Best bank”, “Best branding” and “Best domestic corporate bank in the region” during an awards ceremony held at Jumeirah Emirates Tower hotel in Dubai recently.

Attending the event on behalf of Barwa Bank were chief executive officer Steve Troop, head of marketing Diane Alphonse, head of retail Hussain al-Abdullah and Sheikh Abdulrahman al-Thani (corporate banking).

Troop said: “Receiving ‘Best bank’ not simply nationally or regionally but on the international stage is a very significant achievement and one that all of the team at Barwa Bank are especially proud of. We feel that we are contributing to the growth and perception of Islamic banking, not just regionally, but internationally as well.”

Alphonse spoke about winning ‘Best branding’. “Our brand aims at communicating with customers in a new and fresh way, which represents the innovative approach that we are adopting towards our customers and to Shariah-compliant banking. I am delighted to see that this was appreciated by both customers and our industry peers.”

On the final award of the evening Troop commented: “Despite being a relatively new bank, we were able to win ‘Best domestic corporate bank in the region” due to our strong presence in corporate finance and Islamic Capital Markets (DCM) and the capabilities and expertise of our teams.”

Barwa Bank has grown significantly in both size and stature since it was established in 2008. Its innovative approach has enabled it to create and communicate a unique brand image and value to its customers, and positioned it as a leading brand in the Shariah-compliant banking sector in Qatar and the region.
