Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec), the Qatar-based solar grade polysilicon company which supports innovative uses of solar technologies and applications, has been honoured with the New Economy Magazine’s Clean Tech & New Energy Award 2012 for Best Emerging Renewable Energy Company in the Middle East and North Africa.
Presented to QSTec at a ceremony at the London Stock Exchange, this is the company’s second award. It had won the New Economy Magazine’s Clean Tech & New Energy Award for Best Joint Venture, Africa/ Middle East in 2011, having stood out as a leader in delivering progress in the arena of solar energies in the Mena region.
“The award we received this year is in recognition of our continuous efforts to develop a solar industry for Qatar and create a lasting impact for the country and the world by protecting the environment and society,” said Dr Khalid Klefeekh al-Hajri, chairman and CEO of Qatar Solar Technologies.
“Thanks to our strategic plan and key partnerships, QSTec is acting as an instigator of solar solutions and is working relentlessly to capture the conscience of a new industry, as well as engage a fresh audience with innovative uses of solar.
“Starting with polysilicon, QSTec will expand along the solar value chain and play a major role in Qatar’s rapidly developing solar industry. We are extremely positive about the future of solar energy in Qatar, the region and the world and we look forward with great anticipation to the future.” added Dr al-Hajri.
The 2012 awards were aimed to unearth and promote the new global energy elites.  The winners of the 2012 awards were selected by The New Economy Magazine’s panel of industry experts and readers from a record number of global nominations, who evaluated and chose projects that will go on to serve and impact the way of life well into the next century.
“Since inception, Qatar Solar Technologies has displayed continual growth and looks set to become the industry standard bearer by which other energy companies are compared,” said Jan Spiegel, editor of The New Economy.
“The award panel was particularly impressed with Qatar Solar Technologies’ success in developing excellent key strategic partnerships, both regionally and internationally, to distribute and facilitate clean and alternative energy solutions. The firm’s contribution in helping Qatar reach its 2014 solar energy target has not gone unnoticed, nor has QSTec’s international growth positioning over the past year,” he added.
After a four-month-long awards selection process the magazine honoured organisations and the achievements of the foremost companies, institutions, countries, projects and individuals, committed to the future of energy solutions and pioneering the world of renewable and clean energy, technology and sustainable development.
