The New Port Project Steering Committee has awarded Medco a QR4.5bn contract to dredge the approach channel for the New Port Project in Qatar. The contract includes the dredging of the basin as well as land reclamation for a naval base of approximately 400 hectares and construction of two “outer breakwaters” on both sides of the channel. The New Port is located between Al Wakrah and Mesaieed. Medco is a joint venture among state-owned Qatar Holding, United Development Company and Belgian Dredging and Environmental Group.
