Bank ordered to pay QR150,000

A Doha administrative court has ordered a local bank to pay QR150,000 to an employee who was terminated, local daily Arrayah reported yesterday.

The employee used to work for the bank as a head of sales department with a monthly salary of QR34,000 but was suddenly suspended from work and his salary was stopped.

Consequently, he sued the bank for payment of two month salary plus end of service benefits, annual leave and air tickets allowances, a bonus of QR100,000, education allowance of QR48,000 for his children, the salary of one-month notice period and QR265,000 as employee retention allowance, in addition to QR10mn as compensation for the damages he sustained from the abrupt termination.

The court delegated an expert to do the related calculation. He reported that the employee is entitled to QR148,000. The court ordered that the cost of litigation is to be shared in equal parts by the bank and the former employee.

 

33 dead sheep found on beaches

The beaches and islands department at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has found 33 dead sheep at the northern beaches of the country, local daily Arrayah reported yesterday.

The department has notified the rodents and pests units at the Al-Shamal Municipality to spray the dead animals with pesticides and the veterinary centre had been notified too.

Veterinarians who inspected the animals indicated that they were completely decayed, rendering samples unsuitable for examination.

Sources at the animal wealth department at the Ministry of Environment said that the animals may have died on a cargo ship and they were thrown into the sea and the tide carried them ashore. The source also pointed out that there is no chance for these dead animals to spread diseases to other animal species.

 

PHCC workshop on
women, child health

The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), through its Department of Service Development and Health Promotion, and in collaboration with 37 specialists from different organisations and institutions of Qatar, held a workshop to discuss and establish the basic points of the Women and Child Health National Project.

Dr Amal Essa al-Muraikhi, who leads the initiative, highlighted that ‘the workshop will be the preliminary step towards setting up the foundation of the project with an appropriate representation of stakeholders that will be reflected in the National Committee for Women and Child Health.’  

The participants were experts, advocates and facilitators of women and child health who represented different organisations such as HMC, SCH, Women’s Hospital, Al-Khor Hospital, Sidra Medical and Research Centre, WCMC-Q, Al-Ahli Hospital, QP, QF, and University of Calgary Qatar. The three main areas of the project are: Women health, child health and baby friendly initiative. Participants addressed the issues, gaps and challenges that are currently encountered and are projected to happen, and that have direct or indirect effect on the programme implementation. They gathered the recommending action for each issue mentioned. The PHCC is operating through 23 primary healthcare centres distributed into three regions, namely Central, Western, and Northern. Thirteen of these centres are located in Doha city, while the rest are in populated areas elsewhere in the country.

 

Arab expat group arrested for thefts

A group of Arab expatriates who regularly burgled houses, villas and shops in the district in which they were living in Doha, have been arrested by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department, local Arabic daily Al-Sharq reported yesterday.

The accused used to carry out their operations in an organised manner and in spite of several complaints filed by the residents of the area affected, they eluded the police.

However they were ambushed and caught red-handed. A large amount of cash, valuable articles including equipment were recovered. They have been remanded in police custody.
