The Academy Award nominee for the best documentary (2003), Winged Migration, will be screened at Doha Film Institute’s Green Screen at Katara Esplanade at 8.30pm today in connection with the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference. Entry is free. Directed by Jacques Perrin, the film features breathtaking – literally a bird’s-eye view – cinematography, shot over three years in 40 countries. It tracks the migration of several species of birds as they make their annual gruelling trek from their summer homes in northern and southern climes to winter nearer the Equator. They take the same route year after year, travelling hundreds if not thousands of kilometres without rest.
