A performance that enthralled scores of music enthusiasts, the concert, The Love Triangle, was presented by some of Qatar’s best musicians and paid tribute to a story which has kept many a music lover around the world pondering its essence.
The Chamber works of three great composers, Clara Schumann (songs), Robert Schumann (violin and piano sonata in A minor) and Johannes Brahms (piano quintet in F minor) were performed by vocalist Anna Dietrich, violinists Eugene Bold, Dmitri Torchinsky and Julia Korodi, violist Andrea Mereutza, cellist Ivaylo Daskalov and pianist Sonja Park.
The ASD Chamber Music Series brings together some of the most celebrated global classical artists and casts the limelight on a palette of existing talent in Qatar, in order to present its audience with the finest musical pieces from across the globe.
The Chamber’s first concert for the season hosted The King’s Singers who gave a stellar performance.
IBQ managing director George Nasra called the ASD Chamber Music Series “Qatar’s prestigious musical and cultural event”.
“It brings home a plethora of the world’s most recognised classical work to be performed in front of a very seasoned audience,” Nasra said. “We’re very proud of our partnership with the ASD which has helped see this initiative move from one success to another each year.”
Clara Schumann was a German musician and composer, considered one of the most distinguished pianists of the Romantic era. She exerted her influence over a 61-year concert career, changing the format and repertoire of the piano recital and the tastes of the listening public. Her husband was the composer Robert Schumann. She and her husband encouraged Johannes Brahms and she was the first pianist to give public performances of some of Brahms’ works, notably the Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel.
Dmitri Torchinsky, artistic director of the series, said: “To be a part of the rapidly developing cultural scene in Qatar is both a pleasure and honour. We are extremely happy and thankful to be collaborating on this with the IBQ.”
ASD’s Chamber Music Series third concert is slated for April .
The 2011-2012 season will include six concerts running from November this year.
