Qatar Career Fair 2012 will be held under the patronage of HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani from April 1 to 5 at Qatar National Convention Centre, it was announced yesterday.

“More than 100 entities from all sectors, including ministries, government companies, non-governmental organisations and other institutions are taking part in the Fair”, steering committee co-chair Khalid Abdullah al-Sulaiteen said.
The event, in its fifth year, is organised by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development; Qatar Petroleum; Emiri Diwan; Qatar University; and Ministry of Labour.
“The Fair provides educational, employment, training and development opportunities for young Qataris in addition to career guidance,” stated al-Sulaiteen who is also executive director of operations at QF.
The event, with the new campaign slogan ‘Write the Next Chapter of Qatar’s Success,’ supports Qatar National Vision 2030 by providing quality human resources required for the development process, he said.
QCF executive director Abdullah al-Mansoori explained that the Fair will be categorised under ‘four villages’ representing energy and industry, business and finance, education, health and sports, and other governmental sectors.
“The villages are classified in five categories such as diamond, pearl, gold, silver and bronze and there will be a number of activities including lectures by career development experts,” he said.
The objective is to develop a career culture among young Qataris and promote the concept of career planning from the early years itself.
“As many as 300 young male and female Qatari volunteers are supporting to organise the Fair,” al-Mansoori added.
QP’s corporate training manager Ali Nasser Telfat stated that the country’s flagship energy company hired 576 graduates from high schools and universities and provided 65 scholarships for high school graduates since the end of Qatar Career Fair 2011.
QU’s vice president of students’ affairs, Dr Omar al-Ansari said that the national varsity’s booth at QCF 2012 will provide counselling, career guidance and support.
“QU established a centre for career services in 2005, recognising the importance of imparting educational and career counselling and guidance related to the needs and requirements of the individual and the society,” he pointed out.
The destination of higher education for 70% of Qatar’s high school graduates, QU is a key player in the Qatarisation process in every local company and institution.
Ministry of Labour representative Youssuf al-Saadi said in a message that QCF aims to increase opportunities available to citizens looking for jobs in the private sector in particular.
Al-Sulaiteen added that the results of QCF 2011 are to be published at QCF 2012 or immediately thereafter.
