InterContinental Doha The City opened yesterday in West Bay, signalling the arrival of the city’s newest hotel as well as the InterContinental Residence Suites.
The hotel has 302 rooms and 58 suites, while also providing 178 residence suites, ranging from one to four bedroom apartments.
Owner of the hotel, Mohamed bin Ajaj al-Kubaisi, said: “Qatar is leading the way in cultural and sporting events as well as hosting numerous global conferences. Visitors to Doha are looking for an experience that blends the familiar with the innovative, comfort with luxury, and modernity with the traditions of the region.”
“We are delighted to bring InterContinental Doha The City to the heart of the capital. The hotel will be a tremendous asset to the hospitality industry, and the skyline in Qatar, enhancing its reputation as a world-class destination,” he added.
The hotel has six restaurants and two lounges, including ‘Strata,’ which on levels 55 and 56 of the building will be the highest restaurant in Doha, and offers customers a chilled seafood menu. ‘Nai’ is the hotel’s Lebanese restaurant, while ‘Prime’ is aimed at meat-lovers in Qatar.
“The Square will be an eclectic all-day dining restaurant with interactive cooking stations, ‘Criollo’ will offer handmade chocolate treats, the Lobby Lounge will provide light snacks and drinks, and ‘Hive’ is set to become one of Doha’s most stylish lounges,” explained a spokesperson.

The hotel will also feature the InterContinental Concierge lounge, aimed at helping guests discover ‘hidden gems’ during their stay in Qatar, providing a wealth of authentic local knowledge. Its events centre will also offer a 1,015 sq m pillarless ballroom, as well as four meeting rooms and a business centre. Leisure facilities include a rooftop swimming pool overlooking Doha’s skyline, a health and fitness club, steam and sauna rooms and male and female whirlpools.
Vice president of operations for IHG in the Gulf, Ignace Bauwens noted: “The opening of InterContinental Doha The City is a reflection of the city’s emergence as a hub for business, leisure and events, and will be a great addition to Qatar’s hospitality scene.”

InterContinental Hotels and Resorts have 169 hotels in more than 60 countries around the world, including 110 across India, the Middle East and Africa, and the group has plans to open another 51 hotels across the globe.
