Kalabhavan Qatar, a centre for Indian performing arts, is hosting a cultural evening today at Doha Cinema to mark the institute’s third annual celebrations.
The largest among various Indian cultural academies, catering mainly to the Asian expatriates, in particular Indians and Sri Lankans, Kalabhavan Qatar has more than 1,100 students on its rolls.
At a briefing yesterday, the centre officials said more than 350 students undergoing training will demonstrate their abilities in front of a big gathering at the programme starting at 3.30 this afternoon.
Indian Ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa will be the chief guest. Chairman of Sasco Group Brigadier (Retd) Abdullah Khalaf Mansoor al-Kaabi and managing director James K Chacko will also attend.
The cultural meet will run until 9.30pm.
The financial director of the Sasco Group, Ancy James, said as part of the institute’s expansion exercise, a primary school and kindergarten school would be opened shortly in its adjoining facility in Salata Jadeed. Sasco Group runs the Doha centre of the institute which has its headquarters in Kochi, Kerala.
Ancy said their institute is promoting the skills of budding talents, making use of its experienced faculty, consisting of members deputed by the Kochi centre.
Training is imparted in music, painting, yoga, cooking, and specialised forms of dances such as Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, folk dance, cinematic dance. Instrumental,  carnatic and western music classes are held. 
The Doha branch of the institute, started in memory of its founder Fr Abel, was inaugurated more than three years ago at a cultural extravaganza held at MES Indian School grounds.
Besides Ancy James, executive director K G Mathew Muthalaly, director P C Jacob and group official Manoj Thomas attended the briefing yesterday.
