Dr. Khalid bin Jabor al-Thani
Dr Khalid bin Jabor al-Thani, a pioneer for cancer awareness and research in the Middle East, has been honoured by The Angel Foundation for Cancer Research at The Angel Ball held at Cipriani in Wall Street, New York. Dr Khalid is the founder of the Qatar National Cancer Society.
The Angel Ball is a paramount token of recognition, honouring those who have made substantial humanitarian and philanthropic contributions in support of cancer research. Past honourees have notably been Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, Sheikha Salama bint Hamdan bin Mohamed al-Nahyan, former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev and Queen Noor of Jordan.
The ball has a history of notable patrons, including Bill Clinton - who served as honorary chairman in 1998 – who gave their support to draw attention to the annual event.
Dr Khalid has been a force for perpetuating the dialogue surrounding cancer in the region. A former under-secretary of Qatar’s Ministry of Health, he also serves on the board of the Shafallah Center for Children with Special Needs, making significant strides in the industry.
“It is an honour to be recognised by the Angel Foundation that works so hard on the same path as I, as we make it our mission to fight this epidemic any way possible. More meaningful than the recognition, though, is the opportunity to draw more attention to our endeavours that will motivate others to join in the fight for a cure,” Dr Khalid said.
