The lecture was organised by the Pakistan Women’s Association (PWA).
Dr Shaheena Manzur and Dr Arifa Frasat spoke at length about the different types of breast cancers, their prevalence, risk factors, methods of self-examination and the availability of free check-up and treatment facilities in the country.
The chief guest, Pakistan ambassador’s wife Farzana Khanzada, said that the International Breast Cancer Awareness month should not be limited to October alone and the fight to raise awareness about the disease should continue throughout the year.
“Breast cancer accounts for an alarming percentage of all cancer deaths in women across the globe and it is the most common cause of cancer in women in this region as well. Spreading awareness about it will save innumerable lives,” she noted.
In her welcome speech PWA president Rahat Mansoor stressed that such community awareness programmes contributed to the overall improvement of health and happiness of families. She thanked the Pakistan embassy, PEC management and sponsors of the event for their continued support. The programme ended with a quiz competition.
