Students and professors from Qatar Leadership Academy with QIIB Chief Executive Officer, Abdulbasit al-Shaibei and other senior bank executives at International Islamic corporate office here
Students from the Qatar Leadership Academy (QLA) recently visited the main branch of International Islamic (QIIB) to better understand the functioning of a full-fledged Islamic bank as part of their ‘career day’.
At the bank, the students were taken around various departments, especially the banking hall and customer service department, and briefed on the functioning of an Islamic bank.
The students also met QIIB chief executive officer, Abdulbasit al-Shaibei.
The bank’s deputy CEO, Jamal A Jamal, and Ali Hamad al-Miseifry, assistant general manager, were among those present.
In his address of the QLA students, Al-Shaibei went through the history of the bank, since inception in 1991, and spoke in detail about the key features of Shariah-based banking and the mechanism adopted by Islamic banks in general.
Al-Shaibei reminded the students that knowledge acquisition is important and that they should back their theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
Education is the tool by which students gain knowledge, which helps them become productive individuals and contribute better to the society.
He stressed the importance of ‘loving one’s work’ and urged students to work hard and give their best. He exhorted students to develop their extracurricular activities.
An interactive session followed during which the students asked several questions on Shariah-based banking and how it differs from conventional banking.
The visit organised as part of the ‘career day’ of students was led by professors, Samir al-Najeh and Andrew Pritchard.
At the main branch, the students were greeted by Omar al-Meer, QIIB main branch manager, and Lynda Abu Hazeema, QIIB main branch deputy manager.
