RLPC is the first independent water and power project in Qatar and is a key factor in Qatar’s future economic development. The plant is a natural gas fired 756MW power and a desalination plant of 40MIGD.
Listing major safety factors that contributed to this achievement, HSE manager James Noronha said: “RLPC seeks to eliminate incidents, and promotes a no-blame culture, and empower people to stop any work for a safety concern and won’t be blamed for that.”
Moreover, emphasis was laid on reporting all incidents - however simple they may appear - and lessons are shared with all employees and contractors.
Speaking up and reporting through near miss are some of the structured means of communication whereby employees can report any safety issues in their workplaces and they get rewarded for the same.
At the celebration ceremony which was attended by all employees and contractors working at RLPC, managing director of RLPC Mubarak Nasser M Al Nasr, shared his vision of taking HSE performance to the world-class and completing another five years without LTA.
He asked for a strong commitment from its people to complete 10 years without LTA.
Mubarak said: “Safety is the number one priority in our organisation and we want to ensure that each of our employee and contractor goes home safely by making RLPC incident and injury free workplace.”
Chief guest and head of Qatar Electricity and Water Company, Fahad Hamad Al Mohannadi, congratulated the staff and said: “Every individual is an important person for their family and friends no matter how high or low they work in an organisation. We must strive prevent accidents and protect lives at all cost.”
He also praised the fact that RLPC believes in ‘Safety starts at Home’ and involved the families of the employees to create safety awareness off-work as well.
RLPC frequently conducts various trainings like, first aid and CPR, fire safety at home for the family members in addition to involving children in various drawing and safety slogan competitions to create awareness.
