Dean Byrne receives the award on behalf of UCQ
The University of Calgary-Qatar (UCQ) has received the “award for outstanding contribution to education” from the World Education Congress (WEC) for its contribution and upliftment of education in Qatar. 
While presenting the award to UCQ at an event held in Dubai, a WEC spokesperson said: “The awards of the highest stature are presented to individuals and institutions that have surpassed several levels of its excellence and set an example of being a role model and exemplary leadership.”
On accepting the award, UCQ dean and chief executive officer Dr Carolyn Byrne said: “We are honoured and grateful for this prestigious award. It speaks of the quality of our faculty and the nursing programme that is being offered at UCQ. It provides assurance that the people of Qatar will be receiving world-class healthcare as our students graduate and become employed in the healthcare industry in the state. We hope to continue to improve upon our nursing programme to keep pace with the constant changes in healthcare education and technology.” 
The WEC, which is made up of 100 member-countries, including Qatar, is dedicated to exploring how education can help develop mental, emotional and physical well-being, in the challenging times the world faces today.
