CNA-Q president Dr Ken MacLeod was joined by Qatar University’s Office of the Executive Management Committee Affairs director Dr Khalid Naji, CNA-Q’s IT dean Dr Theodore Chiasson, and corporate training and continuing education manager Bonnie Simmons on the occasion. The Project Management certificate is offered in conjunction with the Project Management Institute while the Oracle Database Administration certificate is offered in partnership with the Oracle Workforce Development Programme.
The Oracle training is targeted at professionals and to update their training. CNA-Q is now able to offer certified PMI training, as the college has been made a Registered Education Provider (REP).
“Our mandate is to provide for the technical training needs of Qatar. We do this in two ways, our full-time programmes, which see over 2,000 students in five programme areas and our part-time programmes,” explained Dr MacLeod.
As a Registered Education Provider, the PMI courses offered at CNA-Q count towards the requirements to earn and maintain a PMI designation.
“I met with Dr Theo last week and had a chance to go through the curriculum and I think it’s very smart to be offering courses, even beyond the certification, and this is the flexibility that we like to have for the reps to excel in developing new courses and new ways to transfer the knowledge of project management to the industry,” explained Dr Naji.
He recalled that CNA-Q was the first institution in Qatar to support the PMI local chapter when it opened in 2009. “The college provided for us the facilities, timing and scheduling for us to provide our courses.”
The Arabian Gulf chapter, of which Qatar is a member, is ranked in the top six of 264 worldwide chapters with almost 4,000 members in the Gulf.
In the last 18 months, the Qatar chapter has grown almost 30% reaching 470 registered members, not including the members who are registered in other countries.
