Friends of Thrissur (FoT), a socio–cultural forum of Indian expatriates from Kerala’s Thrissur district, hosted an event to bid farewell to its former president and long-time Doha resident Shahul Panikkaveettil.
Leaving Qatar for good after 29 years, Panikkaveettil, is a well-known social worker in the Indian community.  FoT successfully conducted six inter-Indian school painting competitions and three inter-Indian school youth festivals under the leadership of Panikkaveettil.
Indian Cultural Centre president K M Varghese inaugurated the farewell meeting. FoT president V A Haneef presided.
FoT apex body chairman Pradeep M Menon, general secretary K R Sidharthan, patron Davis Edakulathoor, Indian Community Benevolent Fund president Nilangshu Dey, Incas president Joppachan Thekkekoottu, Samskrithi general secretary P N Baburaj, Qatar KMCC vice president Abdul Nasar Nachi, Aji Isac and Rajan Joseph also spoke.
Davis Edakulathoor and joint convener P S Nasar handed over mementos and a gift to Shahul.  FoT treasurer Mohamed Sageer welcomed the gathering and vice president Naseemudeen proposed the vote of thanks.
