An effluent treatment plant run by AJP at Pearl Shell GTL facility in Ras Laffan

Al Jaber & Partners (AJP), one of Qatar’s leading infrastructure and energy contractors, has been awarded for the highest safety record to date by Shell for 19mn hours incident and accident free.
Ammar Ammar, business development manager for Al Jaber & Partners, said: “We are delighted to receive the award from Shell for 19mn hours without incident and are proud of such an admirable safety record and achieving near completion of this project with zero LTI. With a capacity to treat 280,000 barrels of water a day, this water treatment plant is comparable to a plant for a town of 140,000 people.”
The effluent treatment plant (ETP) project is designed, constructed and commissioned to optimise the management of a water processing system aimed at achieving zero liquid discharge into the natural environment. The ETP at Pearl Shell GTL, Ras Laffan, is dedicated to the treatment and recycling of industrial effluents.
As part of a joint venture with OTV and Saipem of France, AJP’s total share for this project is worth QR735mn for the full civil and structural work, mechanical steel tank and equipment and piping installation works. The jobsite manpower for the project is approximately 1,500. Upon completion after some 42 months, the ETP will be the world’s largest for the recovery, treatment and re-use of industrial process water.
The Pearl Shell GTL project is currently the single largest investment by Shell with a value of $18bn and is jointly owned by Qatar Petroleum and Shell.
