A spokesperson of the Dukhan Toastmasters said children, in the 10-17 age group from eight nationalities took part in the workshop this year.
“The response generated at the workshop has prompted us to consider holding a similar or bigger workshop next year,” he said.
“We could draw some of the best toastmasters available in Qatar for giving training to children and each child who attended the sessions got a remarkable boost.”
The workshop could be completed successfully only because of the active financial support provided by the Integrated Facilities Management, said the organisers.
It was the first such youth workshop in Dukhan organised by the local toastmasters.
The leadership programme, co-ordinated by Ravi Ramamoorthy was held in four different sessions. Mustafa Sange, Arul Fernandez, Selvaraju, Pareeuddin and Salaudiin were the assistant co-ordinators.
Leading toastmaster Vickey Mustafa presented an educational module on “effective communication and organising one’s speech”.
Other toastmasters who made presentations in different sessions were senior Life Insurance of India consultant Virender Nath and Larsen & Toubro Qatar CEO Ajit Limaye. Their presentations were on “How to persuade” and “ingredients of a good speech” respectively.
The youth leadership programme also provided children with different modules to develop skills like introducing a person, debate and impromptu speaking.
At the art and craft session, held on the sidelines, participants were imparted lessons in creative designing like folder and cards designing, glass painting and flower making. Payal Ashique, Celine Biju and Sumeera Sameer co-ordinated the sessions. Sport events were held under the supervision of Alexander Amo and Preejith.
The organisers also took children to the newly-opened Aqua Theme Park in Abu Nakhla.
Certificates were given to the participants at a ceremony where head of community and business relations QP Dukhan, Mohamed al-Baker, was the chief guest.
Sayma and Aaron were the masters of ceremonies. Narasimhan Ravi was the moderator of a debate held to test the skills acquired by the participants. The debate was on “which is better, books or television”. Ali Raza and Kyle Eunice followed it up anchoring a table topic session.
QP business relations co-ordinator Patrick Choueiri, catering co-ordinator Abulla Jaber, business relations officer Eiman Yousef, Toastmasters Saquib Raza Khan, Easwaran Natarajn and Sameer Hassan Moosa were the guests of honour. Nasimudheen A Hameed welcomed the gathering.
