The Sudanese government and the rebel Liberation and Justice Movement yesterday signed in Doha an agreement to establish peace in the western province of Darfur. The pact, capping nearly two years of negotiations, was signed at a ceremony attended by HH the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. Leaders of Chad, Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, and Eritrea and representatives of regional organisations were also present. There were jubilant celebrations on both the sides after the signing ceremony.
