The Community College Qatar has held its first Student Leadership and Academic Achievement Awards reception at the Sharq Village and Spa recently. 
The purpose of the special night, which celebrated the outstanding achievements of many CCQ student scholars and leaders was to recognise students who have made outstanding contributions in club leadership, student activities, sports, volunteer activities, as well as those students with a grade point average of 4.0.
In a welcome remark, CCQ dean Dr Judith Hansen congratulated the students for the outstanding achievements and urged them to study as they represented Qatar’s promising future. 
CCQ student and the college’s Islamic Club president Jaber al-Emadi performed the reading of the Holy Qur’an, while Student Government Association vice president Munira al-Thani gave a profound speech thanking the CCQ faculty and staff on behalf of all students.
Georgetown School of Foreign Service in Qatar’s interim dean Dr Mehran Kamrava was the keynote speaker, who told the students to continue to work hard, develop a sense of curiosity and to never stop asking questions.
He urged them not give up in an era of rapid scientific, social and economic development as well as political and global challenges.
In the closing remarks, CCQ senior official Dr Ibrahim al-Naimi congratulated the students and charged them to serve as role models to others.
He also thanked the organising committee Dr Abdulnassir al-Tamimi and Mashael al-Mohannadi for their hard work and dedication to making the event a success.
The college plans to make the reception an annual event.
