Volleyball tournament winners SSC Wakrah and runner-up Shnehi-dam

A large number of Sri Lankans turned up at the Qatar Foundation indoor courts yesterday to cheer teams taking part in a volleyball tournament to select a 30-member pool for the forthcoming Volleyball Communities League Men’s and Women’s Championship.
The championship is being organised by the Qatar Volleyball Association.
The tournament for the Sri Lankan expatriate community was organised by the embassy of Sri Lanka in association with Sri Lanka Co-ordinating Committee (SLCC) Qatar and Sri Lankan Sports Club (SSC) Wakrah.
Matches were played on a knock-out basis, with many closely contested.
SSC Wakrah and Shnehi-dam emerged winner and runner-up.
They were presented with a trophy and medals by the sponsor of the tournament, CCU Logistics WLL.
SLCC president Lenny Cramer and SSC Wakrah president Palith Gunarathna briefed the teams and community members on the purpose of the tournament and lauded the organising committee and players for the enthusiasm shown throughout the event.
During the course of the matches, the following players were selected to commence training for the championship league: 
• From SSC Wakrah – Dulip Liyanage, Sudath Udeesiri, Chaminda Upul, Upali Somasiri, Chamila Niroshan, Chaanaka Prasad, and Gayan Chaanaka;
• From Shnehi-dam – KD Tharanga, M Menaka Chamila Kumaralam, A Anuradam, S Shiwanandam, N Dhilipkumar, and S Rajeewan;
• From Nissan – Ishak Arawinda, Darshana Nuwan, Anuruddha Premakumara, S Shiwakumaran, A Indikarathna, Neel Darshana, and Sampath Nalinda;
• From Sierra – Samantha Godapeliya, Tyronne Kumara Sirisena, Nuwan Manjula Udayasiri, BM Dilip Chathuranga, and T Don Lakmal;
•From Shiver Kids – LS Vijayarathnam, SAM Pradeep, and Randika Dilhan Fernando;
• From Thinara – Chanaka Udayanga and Kalpasad Wijesundara.
