The University of Calgary – Qatar (UCQ) will attempt to create a formula that will combine all the educational expertise in Qatar into one unified force.
“This project will provide a great model for collaboration and teamwork across disciplines and institutions. I am very pleased and excited that UCQ is playing such a large leadership role in the development and management of a research project of this size,” the project’s lead primary investigator Dr Brad Johnson stated.
UCQ will partner in the research with five institutions in Qatar including the Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medical and Research Centre, Weill Cornell Medical College, Qatar University – College of Pharmacy and College of the North Atlantic – Qatar’s Health Sciences Programme.
All the institutions make up the Qatar Inter-professional Health Council.
“This research project is the first to bring IPE to the Gulf region with the potential to move it forward in a substantial way. I think it demonstrates our ability and capacity to provide leadership in education and research and positions UCQ as a major player in the healthcare landscape in Qatar,” Johnson said.
Researchers hope to demonstrate that an Inter-professional Healthcare Education programme developed in Qatar will help improve healthcare delivery in the state and can be expected guide similar initiatives in the Gulf region and elsewhere.
In this respect, Qatar will be recognised as a leader in the improvement of healthcare outcomes.
