The Indian Cultural Centre’s (ICC) Music Club held their second session recently, featuring the rendition of ghazals by local talents.

The singers treated the gathering to a number of famous songs, popularised by legends such as Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, Talat Aziz, Pankaj Udhas, Chandan Das, Lata Mangeshkar and Farida Khanum.
The performers also sang a duet made famous in their heydays by Bhupinder and Suresh Wadekar. Alpana Pandey anchored the programme.
The programme started with Shreyas Patkar’s rendition of “Pyaar Bhare do Sharmile Nain” followed by “Huzoor is qadar bhi na itra ke chaliye”. The other singers who followed Patkar were Muthalib Asdul (Hothon se chhulo tum), Lawrence Pinto (Tum bin kahi qarar…), Shyamal Biswas (Kaise sukoon paoon…), Sharmilee Dutta Gupta (Ye kya sitam…), Pradeep Chandran (Madhuram madhuram …), Barnali Biswas (ICC music teacher), Sameer, Zubair (Chupke chupke raat din…), Saumya Sikdar (Zara Si aahat hoti hai…) and Hamza (Niklo na benaqab).
Barnali Biswas proved her prowess in music with “Aaj jane ki zid na karo.”
Sameer’s “Chitthi aai hai” got a loud applause from the audience.
All the singers did justice to their abilities, and were ably supported by Anjan Das on tabla, Mohsin (harmonium) and Suhail (guitar).
The concert was concluded by Patkar, with the famous “Ranjish hi Sahi” by Ahmad Faraz.The organiser of the concert, Biswas said the music club is looking forward to more such evenings. The next event will be a folk songs evening. Biswas also added that the main objective of the club is to have its full-fledged live band for such performances.
