“LG is opening a new chapter in the development of world TV by bringing Cinema 3D to consumers in the region. It represents the absolute pinnacle of 3D TV entertainment using the very best of recent innovative technology from LG,” said K W Kim, president of LG Electronics, Middle East & Africa region.
C V Rappai, director and general manager of Jumbo Electronics, Doha said LG’s new product will be available in Qatar in the next ten days.
Fox, who is visiting the region for the first time in order to attend the launch, said that she already has the new TV in her home and is impressed by the Internet navigation features.
LG’s Cinema 3D TVs use LG’s patented Film Patterned Retarder (FPR) technology, which according to LG, provides a crisp and sharp 3D image when viewed through its lightweight polarised glasses, allowing viewers to watch 3D entertainment longer, and in greater comfort. This technology, developed by the company, has also been licensed to Philips and a number of Chinese electronics manufacturers, according to senior LG officials.
“LG’s goal of ensuring added comfort with a crystal-clear and smooth 3D image is certified Flicker-free by TUV and Intertek, two world-renowned technology testing agencies from Europe,” said Kim.
“By addressing the issue of flickering and cross-talk, LG has ensured that dizziness or even nausea that could affect people watching 3D TV, is no longer an issue.”
LG’s FPR technology also allows flexible viewing positions and a wide viewing angle making, which was a problem with previous 3D televisions. The new range of televisions also provides advanced 2D to 3D conversion, which LG said will also work with gaming consoles. LG’s Cinema 3D TV is viewed through lightweight glasses that have no electrical parts, so they are free of electromagnetic waves which might cause health issues and never need charging.
Speaking at a press conference prior to the official regional launch, Kim said the glasses’ reasonable price means while initially TVs will come with four pairs of glasses, this may increase from six to 10.
People who already wear glasses can add clip-on versions to their spectacles for greater comfort and convenience.
Kim also said that LG will soon make an announcement about collaborations with the media industry to increase and improve 3D content.
He said that while 3D titles will still be limited by the end of this year, he expects a significant increase next year.
LG are applying the same 3D technology to their smart phones and computers, so there will be a wide scope for media development.
