Mazaya Qatar Real Estate Development Company (QSC) has joined the list of founding members of the Qatar Green Buildings Council (QGBC), an independent non-profit organisation committed to developing a sustainable approach to the design and development of buildings in Qatar, it was announced yesterday.
Supported by the company’s honorary president HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Mazaya Qatar’s QGBC membership forms part of its belief in the necessity to maintain the environment, and its commitment to sustainable environmental practices in the interest of preserving it for future generations.
The company’s initiative is also part of a policy that aims to implement environmental concepts in its development and construction operations.
Mazaya Qatar’s Public Relations and Marketing Manager Ahmed al-Shafi said: “As a real estate developer operating in the Qatari market, Mazaya Qatar is required to contribute to making this vital national project a success. This project is in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and is aimed at enhancing Qatar’s position as an advanced country that is able to achieve sustainable development while securing prosperity and high standards of living for its people and the generations to come.”
He added that through the membership, the company will strive to achieve Qatar’s vision and contribute to realising the sought-after objectives of environmental safety and sustainability.
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those supporting the Qatar Green Buildings Council for giving us the opportunity to be a member of this important and constructive project,” he noted.
The QGBC will provide membership programmes to enhance green buildings initiatives, and will adopt high level professional development programmes that aim to spread awareness among developers on green practices and technologies, guide and assist the development and construction sector.
It will also find the best ways to proceed with plans for the future of Qatar.
Membership to the QGBC will provide a chance to join, support and communicate with a global network of green buildings experts and developers.
Qatar is a new member of the World Green Building Council (WGBC), which represents over 50% of global construction activity bringing together 15,000 companies and organisations worldwide.
To date, there are 16 countries worldwide setting up their own green building councils with the aim of joining the WGBC’s current list of 12 member countries.
