Ambassador Monji presents a book to Chomowicz |
The donated books were featured in 21st Doha International Book Fair last year.
“We believe that these books will help enhance the understanding of the students of VCUQatar about Japanese traditional and modern art,” the envoy said.
Chomowicz expressed his gratitude and said that he has visited Japan and that design and architecture in Japan were wonderful and a “must see.”
“These books would be beneficial to the students,” he said. Monji and Chomowicz also discussed the further co-operation between the embassy and VCUQatar.
The ambassador also provided the information on the Japanese government scholarships that are currently open to undergraduate and research students of Qatar.
The last date to apply for Japanese scholarships is June 9. The application forms are available at the embassy as well as on its website: http://www.qa.emb-japan.go.jp/index_e.html
The meeting was also attended by Japanese embassy’s counsellor and deputy head of mission Izuru Shimmura, and cultural attaché Hiromi Amano.
The participation in international book fairs and donation of books to various educational institutions and libraries is one of the initial activities of the Japan Foundation, a non-profit, semi-governmental organisation established in 1972 to promote international cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Japan and the rest of the world.
