Winners in a photography competition and exhibition sponsored by the Blue Salon have been announced.

In all, 47 photographs taken by some 45 student participants were entered into the contest out of which the best three photographs were chosen.
The photographs displayed at a two-day exhibition captured different settings like buildings, people, animals at Souq Waqif and places such as the Corniche, Horse Club and Katara among others.
The first prize went to Fatma Khamis, who took picture of the Museum of Islamic Art printed in black and white while the second place was awarded to Monira Mohamed’s photograph depicting an old house with a ladder placed next to it.
Naira Mohamad al-Thani’s picture of a lizard was adjudged the third place while a fourth prize due to popular vote was given to Haya Yusef’s photograph showing an old man relaxing on his cart at Souq
Waqif.
Other student contestants were awarded certificates apart from token gifts from the event sponsor.
The prize-giving ceremony was held at Blue Salon and hosted by FP director Dr Khalid al-Ali and chief executive officer Fawaz ldrissi.
Speaking at the ceremony, ldrissi said: “Blue Salon management is always keen on encouraging young talent and creativity in all forms. Our corporate social responsibility role is pivoted on activities that are directed towards youth, boosting their skills and giving them positive exposure.”

Dr al-Ali said: “The photos will portray among other things, the life and environment of Qatar. We are pleased with the way in which the participants translated their personal passion into such vibrant story-telling through photography. This is one of the ways in which we provide opportunities for our students to participate in the life of the community in which they live.”
Also speaking about the photo exhibition, a lecturer at one of the QU Foundation units Ahmad Hazratzad, said that the exhibition and the competition was aimed at motivating students to take good photographs and play a more active role in the society.
