‘A Flower Each Spring’ programme conducted on Friday at Dossari Nature Reserve with planting of the Qullam sapling (Arthrocnemum glaucum), which has been chosen as this year’s plant.
The annual green drive, now in its 13th year, is patronised by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and is conducted by Friends of Environment Centre (FEC).
FEC secretary general Yousef al-Kazim said he was satisfied with the remarkable interest shown by the public.
Over 400 people attended the event which featured several items to introduce the Qullam and 12 previous plants through drawings, research, poetry and short stories on environment and ended with a distribution of awards.
The last session, next week, will be held on Thursday at The Landmark, where around 500 attendants are expected. Many families from the GCC countries are taking part in field trips organised as part of the programme.
Al-Kazim said: “A Flower Each Spring campaign is aimed at ensuring that everyone is aware of the local flora and the need to protect the natural wealth of the country besides the recreational aspect of the event.”
