Al-Mannai receives the cheque from Dr MacLeod
College of the North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q) and Reach Out To Asia (Rota) signed a memorandum of understanding yesterday formalising the relationship between the two institutions and for future collaboration in the fields of education and innovation.
CNA-Q president Dr Ken MacLeod and Rota director Essa al-Mannai were the signatories. After the signing, Dr MacLeod presented al-Mannai with a cheque for QR38,069 raised during the 2009 and 2010 CNA-Q Holiday Bazaars.
Since 2005, CNA-Q has raised over QR150,000 for charities including Rota, Qatar Charity, Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Cancer Society and Qatar Minor Hockey through the annual bazaar.
“CNA-Q’s expertise in the field of education will be invaluable for our work with the children of southern Asia,” al-Mannai said.
He explained that Rota is about knowledge and education. Knowledge transfer is also the aim of the charity; it is not just about monetary donations, he said.
“CNA-Q has a wealth of knowledge that they are happy to share and transfer to those countries in need,” al-Mannai added.
Dr MacLeod and al-Mannai also discussed teacher quality and English language training during a pre-event meeting.
“I see this as a very exciting partnership,” said Dr MacLeod while explaining that CNA-Q has a large amount of technology at the college that quickly gets updated.
“We can transfer it to Rota and they are able to transfer it to countries in need. We also have a high level of expertise at the college that we can mobilise on short notice for a number of projects,” he said.
