Commercialbank sponsored ‘The 2011 BSME Games’ (British Schools in the Middle East), which was held at the Al Khor International School.
The 2011 BSME Games were opened by Lyal French-Wright, principal of Al Khor International School. The games usually see the participation of British Schools from around the Middle East including UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Qatar. In total, 11 schools participated.
The event comprised competitions in swimming, athletics, basketball, football and netball. The BSME Games are held annually in different countries throughout the Middle East.
Member schools of BSME are essentially British curriculum schools in which the principal and majority of teachers, apart from those teaching local languages, have qualifications recognised by the Division of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS) in London.
The BSME is one of the largest organisations for British curriculum schools in the world with 70 member schools from some 13 countries educating a combined 60,000 children and employing more than 5,000 teachers.
