Japanese Ambassador Kenjiro Monji and Nasser Abdulghani Abdulghani at the book donation ceremony at QELC
Japanese Ambassador Kenjiro Monji has donated 67 Japan-related books to the Qatar Eastern Language Centre (QELC).
QELC chairman Nasser Abdulghani Abdulghani received the books.
The newly established QELC provides a Japanese language course for learners above the age of 16. At the moment, the QELC is the only school teaching the Japanese language to the public in Qatar.
The centre is planning to set up Chinese and Arabic language courses as well.
The donated books were originally sent from Japan to be displayed at the Japan booth set up by the Embassy of Japan and the Japan Foundation during the 21st Doha International Book Fair in 2010.
Following the ambassador’s speech, contributions collected from the QELC students for natural disaster victims in Japan were handed over to him.
Currently the QELC has 30 students and two professional Japanese teachers including director Kentaro Azuma, who has a long experience in teaching Japanese in Qatar.
He was one of the Japanese teachers at the Language Teaching Institute of the Supreme Education Council which was closed in September 2010.
