Expatriate social forum South Kerala Islamic Association (Skia) will honour Dr V P Gangadharan, an Indian oncologist, at a function to be held at Hamza bin Abdul Muthalib School in Bin Mahmoud on Friday.
The forum said Gangadharan is being honoured in recognition of the innovations he introduced in the treatment of different forms of cancer since the 1980s at one of the well-known cancer treatment facilities in Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram.
Several Indian doctors working in Qatar will attend Friday’s meeting, which will be inaugurated by Al Amal Cancer Hospital director Dr Naji al-Mannai, Skia officials said yesterday.
Dr Gangadharan will deliver a lecture on “cancer and its impact on expatriate communities.” The meeting is being held in association with the Supreme Council of Health (SCH).
Skia official Mohamed Qutab Babu said the meeting is being held to spread more awareness about the spread of cancer and its impact on the financial security of each individual.
At the meeting, Dr Gangadharan’s widely acclaimed autobiography Jeevithamenna Athbutham (Life… it is a Miracle) will be re-launched.

Dr Gangadharan, who was one of the founding members of the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) in Thiruvananthapuram, is now working at Lakeshore Hospital in Kochi.
At the meeting, Muslim scholar and Imam of Thiruvananthapuram’s Palayam Masjid Moulavi Jamaludheen Mankada will also speak.
The organisers will screen a documentary - A helping hand to cancer-stricken lives -focusing on the importance of helping cancer patients.
The organisers said they chose Hamzah bin Muthalib School as the venue to ensure the participation of a large number of people from the Indian community. Separate seating arrangements have been made for women. Inquiries could be had on 55824373/66082134.
